Unconventional street instagrammers
Using a channel like Instagram to produce quality photos is not easy, however, the GoodFellas have succeeded. Not only are their photos of great value, but they also have the merit of being social. Quick and fast, the GoodFellas show us how, even in the age of photos taken by everyone and available for free to everyone, you can be good, very good. We asked them some questions to understand what lies behind using Instagram and what drove them to become social reporters.
Who are the GoodFellas?
The GoodFellas are a group of photographers who met through Instagram and are trying to bring quality to a social networking site that, especially in the beginning, had very little quality. The founders are three Raffaele Cavicchi, Giulio Giacconi and Giovanna Taddei.
Are you really ‘good guys’?
We came up with the name precisely to go against the classic stereotype of Italians abroad. In fact, unlike the famous ‘GoodFellas’ we work properly and seriously and all the numbers we have on the various social networks are ‘ours’ without any help!
State riscuotendo parecchio successo, e non solo su Instagram: cos’è che richiama tanto interesse sulla vostra attività ?
The interest in our business is mainly due to our speed! Working more or less all with cameras with wifi direct, we are able to take the photo, post-produce it on the phone and send it to the client, practically in real time. This is especially useful when we are asked for live coverage of events, concerts, fashion shows, and the photos are needed immediately.
Today, reflex and super equipment are available to everyone: but is it possible to work with mobile?
Yes, it is possible to work with mobile, especially when a high resolution of the photo is not needed, i.e. in cases where the photo does not need to be printed, but is mainly used on social channels.
The Sartorialist started a phenomenon: do you feel part of it?
Actually, we don’t just do street style, it is reductive to only be part of that phenomenon. Street style has given us a lot of visibility because we have worked for important blogs and magazines, but then we have ranged over all fields of photography.
ashion photography: what is special about the street as opposed to the catwalk?
Street style, unlike catwalks, is more popular because it catches ‘fashion’ people more spontaneously, perhaps as they arrive at a fashion show, at a party, so that people can copy their style.
What are your favourite subjects?
Of all of them, our favourite is street photography and street portraits, i.e. unconventional portraits.
What are your plans for the future?
We try to be more and more visible and to make customers realise that great results can also be achieved by using unconventional photographic methods.
What opportunities should young people seize nowadays?
With the internet and the various social media, young people should try to invent something by exploiting these channels that the ‘oldies’ do not yet know how to use well.
You can challenge someone ‘to the death’ with a click. Who would you challenge?
I would definitely challenge Scott Schuman the inventor of The Sartorialist because, personally, street fashion is my favourite genre of photography.
