SEO, AEO and AI Overview:
online visibility is no longer the same
Artificial intelligence is revolutionising every field, and the way people search for information online is no exception. For several months now, Google has been testing a new type of experience called AI Overview: an answer generated by artificial intelligence that appears before the classic search results.
The question arises: what happens to my website? Is it still visible? Should I be concerned? Spoiler: no, but it’s time to understand what’s going on 🤔
From SEO to AEO: what does Google want now?
For years, we have been optimising content for SEO, i.e. to please search engines.
Now, with AI, the concept is expanding:
it is no longer enough to be found, you have to become the answer.
This is the heart of AEO, Answer Engine Optimisation.
In practice? Your content must be:
- clear (well-structured questions and answers),
- useful (really relevant to your target audience),
- authoritative (reliable, with recognisable sources and/or experience).
Visibility can only be gained with good content
The fact that an AI response appears before links does not mean that websites will disappear. On the contrary: the sources used by AI are cited. This means that if your content is solid, Google can select it and put it right there in the AI Overview box. A new type of visibility, more selective, but still possible.
What matters today is:
- Talking to people, not algorithms
- Answering specific questions clearly
- Paying attention to titles, subtitles and formatting
- Including structured data where possible (FAQs, articles, recipes, etc.)
Conclusion: don't chase AI,
keep producing valuable content
The risk today is not “not being seen”, but losing direction: chasing the algorithm and forgetting who really reads us: people.
Before sharing any type of content, the question to ask yourself is:
is what I am publishing useful to anyone?
If the answer is yes, AI could be an ally.
The rest is called strategy. And if you have any doubts or want to be sure you’re creating content that works for both search engines and AI, call Notorious Agency.
